BELONG
Kristin Romberg – Art as Connection and Belonging
Since 2001, I’ve been creating large-format paintings, drawing
inspiration from my extensive travels and residencies around the globe. My work often transcends the traditional canvas, inviting viewers into a tactile, layered experience that echoes the complexities of nature. Whether suspended from thin cords or layered on walls, my paintings
are a reflection of my connection to the places I’ve explored and the
inner force that drives my creative process.
As an artist, I explore the delicate balance between humans and nature, with a focus on the fate of insects—a critical but often overlooked environmental issue. Working with acrylic on untreated canvas, I use vibrant colors and dynamic compositions to evoke a deeper understanding of our natural world. My art is both a tribute to nature’s beauty and a call to action, encouraging mindfulness in how we interact with the environment.

The sea is also a recurring source of inspiration in my work, reminding us that everything is interconnected—humans, animals, insects, plants, and the ecosystems we share. Through immersive installations where canvases hang freely and invite touch, I seek to create spaces of belonging and awareness. Here, painting becomes more than an image: it becomes a lived experience, where nature’s fragility and resilience can be felt as much as seen.
