Between Seeing and Being
2026 / Lofoten, Norway
These paintings grew out of a summer spent in Lofoten, north of the Arctic Circle, where the landscape is impossible to keep at a distance.
Mountains rise directly from the sea. The light shifts slowly across water and rock, and the boundaries between weather, landscape and emotion begin to dissolve.
I am not trying to paint what I see. I am painting what happens when I am there — the stillness, the changing light, the cold water, the wind, the vastness and the feeling of being completely present. The works become traces of that experience. An inner landscape shaped by an outer one.
Somewhere between seeing and being.
